Personal statement
Iona Pelovska says:
"Vanitas means vanity. It is also the name of a Northern Renaissance painterly style depicting life's transience in still lives rich in symbolism.
Affluence as divine grace - fruits, sea food, silverware – was juxtaposed to the fleeting nature of earthly delights - a skull, a timepiece, a fly. The film uses this language to weave a tale about the paradoxes of life' parabola - from attraction to creative collaboration and destructive strife.
A film about he folly of being alive and...dead, Vanitas is a 21st century filmic resurrection of 17th century paintings that inaugurated the modern spirit."
