Synopsis

John Prophet is haunted by his past. His memories cloud each sleepless night and his waking hours.

These memories are fractured expressions of his past, but John can’t make out the difference between the past and the present, between delusion and reality.

John’s existance and survival depends on his claims both to his past and his right to spiritual freedom in the present.

Personal statement

Byron McKim says:

"Triptych is one of six short films from the series Dancing with Spirit that explores the history of aboriginal life and myths as told through contemporary dance.

I commissioned Michael Greyeyes to create a contemporary dance program that would explore homeless natives living in an urban environment. He based his outline on stories his mother told him of occurrences First Nations Peoples experienced living in the residential school system.

We shot the film in the streets of Toronto where hundreds of natives live homeless."
