Synopsis
Dramatizing the scenarios portrayed in Danielle French’s song
Time to Kill, this film presents a rather surreal twist on the age-old boy-meets-girl-story.
The main characters, Scarlett and Raven, spot each other across the room at a fantasy-themed costume party and are irresistibly drawn to one another.
Scarlett begins to fantasize…a sequence of vignettes unfolds in which she imagines a variety of unusual locations where she and Raven could perhaps meet for a bizarre series of dream dates…that is, if they both have time to kill.

Personal statement
Danielle French says:
"Coming from a background as an established singer/songwriter, I have recently been inspired to expand my music into the visual realm and have been exploring filmmaking as another creative outlet.
I released my first short film to my song Avalon in 2004 and am grateful to have received funding through the Canada Council and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts ACDI program and Bravo!FACT, as well as editing support in co-production with The Banff Centre to produce and direct this film, Time to Kill.
I refer to this project as a short film as opposed to a music video, in that the intent is from a filmmaker's perspective as opposed to a musician's perspective - it has a narrative; I do not appear in the film as an artist; and the distribution outlet has been geared towards arts outlets such as film festivals and broadcast outlets such as the Bravo! channel (where is has been aired nationally), as opposed to MuchMusic.
My song Time to Kill appears on my 2007 CD release Shadows and was inspired by Tom Waits. It lent itself perfectly to being explored in a visual medium due to the bizarre meeting places referred to in the verses of the song. I wanted to enhance the surrealism of the lyrics by simply literalizing them and bringing them to life where we see this couple meet in a series of strange locations, such as on the ledge of a building, in the woods, at the fair etc.
I hope you enjoy the film! And if you enjoy the song, it can be found on iTunes or through my website."
