Synopsis

Electricity, a mysterious life force, was once confined to tiny impulses within our brains or supernatural flashes from the sky.

It now courses through all things like the relentless beat of the drums.

Personal statement

Brit Cruise says:

"This film began as a meditation on different modes of time (musical, solar, electrical, biological etc.). During the production process I began to think deeper about how these modes also shape the spaces in which they are present.

Out of this came the idea of time as a metaphor which then pushed me to include some sections of a speech
by Jorges Louis Borges given at Harvard in the 60's (which I had listened to on repeat during a road trip to Nevada some years ago).

Although this increased the thematic complexity of the piece, I enjoyed the process of editing around the narration in post production rather then planning to shape a film around it from the outset.

The most important driving thought that pushed me through this production was the power of electricity to shape society - and when this ubiquitous medium is tied to the modern concepts of time the result, in my mind, is staggering."
