Personal statement
Director Matt Hotson says:
"The Adventures of Ratman is based on the book of the same name by Ellen Weiss & Mel Friedman (with illustrations by Dirk Zimmer). It was my favourite book as a child, and it complemented my addiction to super hero comic books.
Random House put me in touch with Ellen & Mel, who were thrilled to grant me the rights for the adaptation. Due to various constraints and restrictions (ie: shooting with no money in the middle of a Canadian winter), the film story takes some liberties from the book, but I feel it still holds true to the original spirit and intent found in Ellen, Mel, and Dirk’s original work.
Our great crew and amazing young cast helped make it look like I knew what I was doing, and the result is this short film which I hope will entertain people for years to come!"
