Survey says – NSI works! Chris Vajcner

According to the NSI alumni survey issued in late 2008 – 96% of those who responded are working in the industry.

At the start of winter, the National Screen Institute sent out a survey to its alumni. We last surveyed our alumni in 2005. We do it for a few reasons: to keep in touch, gather information required by our private and government funders and to celebrate all the good stuff our alumni does.

In this latest survey our alumni had the opportunity to share some thoughts about the importance of their NSI training to their career paths.
“…while on one of the assisted markets, I sold my first documentary to Discovery Channel. My most recent documentary was sold to the same broadcaster – only the budget was 4 times the size.”  Kevin Dunn, NSI Global Marketing 2002-03
“DramaLab was a critical stepping stone along my path to making two award-winning short films which in turn led to a successful career directing dramatic series television.” E. Jane Thompson, NSI DramaLab 1985, NSI Features First 2007-08
“Storytellers 2006 has helped me build a network both nationally and internationally that is still being utilized by our Production company to this current time.” Melanie Jackson
“Having the Features First program on my resume has garnered me more consideration and respect with everyone I’ve had dealings with on various projects I’m developing.”  Adria Budd-Johnson, NSI Features First 2004-05
“One of my co-participants in NSI’s Global Marketing in 2003-04 was Jennifer Podemski, who had just produced the first season of Moccasin Flats. Because of our shared GM experiences we found a good fit a few years later, when I invited her to co-produce Rabbit Fall with Angel Entertainment. And my participation in Totally Television opened doors for me with some of Canada’s top EP’s and broadcasters.”  Bob Crowe
“Making a short film with the NSI was an important stepping stone in advancing my career to features and developing the skills and techniques I put to use every day.” Drew Hagen, NSI Drama Prize 2006-07
“I think the alumni gets great treatment! Thank you for wanting to promote us! I’m very grateful and will definitely be asking for promotion from you…BECAUSE I AM AN NSI ALUMNI! Yay for me!”  Anne Marie Scheffler, NSI Totally Television 2003-04
Congrats to NSI Features First alum Will Pascoe who won the draw for the iPod Nano 4GB in December and thanks to all our alumni who responded to the survey.

NSI alumni – please continue to keep us up-to-date on your achievements!
