NSI party at TIFF Polly Washburn

On Monday night of the Toronto International Film Festival 2008, several dozen people (including me) gathered on the top floor of the Royal Ontario Museum, as guests of the National Screen Institute - Canada (NSI) to take a break from film-watching and celebrate filmmaking at the NSI.

Stills from various NSI projects were projected on the wall above the party, a testament to the incredible talent gathered in the room.

Through the lively mix, guests introduced people they knew to new contacts, as they enjoyed the tasty food and drinks. Several NSI Features First participants and alumni joined in the festivities, including Katherine Collins, Marlene Rodgers, Melissa Taylor, Ines Buchli, Cory Kinney, Sarah Dodd, Jason Lapeyre, Anneli Ekborn, Will Pascoe, Brian Hartigan, Lara McKinnon and Darren Portelli.

Winnipeg filmmakers Mike Maryniuk and Matthew Rankin, who had a film in the festival, schmoozed with folks like the multi-talented Jonas Chernick.

Representatives from production companies such as the Force Four contingent
from Vancouver were also in attendance.

And of course NSI staff were on hand: Paul Moreau, Director of Business Development; Liz Janzen, Director of Programming; Brendon Sawatzky, Manager of Training Programs; and Lauren MacDiarmid, Logistics Coordinator.

This was the NSI's fourth TIFF party and I for one am looking forward to next year's!
