NSI Drama Prizers make a big impression at TIFF

NSI Drama Prize short film Les Grands by National Screen Institute alumni Christine Falco and Chloe Leriche has been selected for the Toronto International Film Festival Short Cuts Canada program.

Current NSI Drama Prize participants Katie Weekley, Geoff Redknap and Pat Mills have been selected for the renowned TIFF professional development sessions: Telefilm Canada Pitch This! and Talent Lab.

Christine Falco producer for Les Grands said, "We're very proud to be part of this year's Toronto International Film Festival. It's a great honour for the film and for all those who were involved in its production. Being chosen for NSI Drama Prize gave us confidence in ourselves and in our project. The NSI truly supports the art of making short films and helps you take an important step in the film industry."

Les Grands will screen at CUMBERLAND 3 on September 10 at 6:00 p.m. and also on September 11 at 4:00 p.m.

Katie Weekley and Geoff Redknap are one team of six finalists selected for Telefilm Canada Pitch This! Weekley and Redknap will pitch the feature length version of their NSI Drama Prize short The Auburn Hills Breakdown on September 11.

Pat Mills, writer/director for NSI Drama Prize short Marjorie O'Brien's Trip to the Fridge has been selected for the four-day intensive artistic development program Talent Lab.

"This is wonderful affirmation for these talented filmmakers," said Joy Loewen, manager of the NSI Drama Prize program. "To see these filmmakers recognized by such a prestigious film festival is a huge boost for them and for the NSI Drama Prize program. We're extremely proud."

NSI Drama Prize is the National Screen Institute's longest running training program. Each year up to five teams receive cash, services and one year of professional development and mentoring to produce a quality short film.
