Congrats to Kellie Ann Benz, the National Screen Institute's online short film columnist, who just made the final six filmmakers selected for Crazy8s.
Six Canadian filmmakers from BC will
now shoot, edit and
debut their short films in eight days. For the first time more than half
the finalists are women.
The full list of finalists is:
- Zia Marashi with CAT VS MAN (whose film The Empty Room Club was programmed in the NSI Online Short Film Festival.);
- Liz Cairns with SAD BEAR;
- Angelina Cantada with SIKAT;
- Kellie Ann Benz with STUPID CHAINSAW TRICKS;
- Dwight Hartnett with THE EDUCATION OF WENDY WISCONSIN; and
- Arianna McGregor with TUNNEL
These six finalists beat out over 100 others who applied with a five minute video pitch of their short film idea.
The 40 strongest video pitches were selected and directors then pitched in-person to a jury of film professionals including NSI board member Louise Clark, Sue Biely, Dylan Akio-Smith and Peg Campbell.
The filmmakers went through a script workshop in which they were were paired with professional story editors, and made the final cut based on the strength and originality of their final script.
The finished films will be unveiled at a gala screening at the Vogue Theatre on Saturday March 27.
