Personal statement

Director Caroline Barrientos says:

"The footage for
loss studies came together from the improvisation of three dancers, as I slid around and through them with a camera. The concept for the video didn't come together until later while I was watching what I had taped.

I am interested in the texture that is created from sound interacting with movement. There are songs by artists that twinge something in me every time I hear them. These are songs that I am compelled to put images and motion to, so the songs are carried with me as I take random video when the desire strikes.

This track by the album leaf, along with a palpable feeling of loss that was heavy in my life at that point, were with me as I was taping this. It is from those elements that
loss studies emerged.

For me, the movement in this video is almost secondary to the song, placed the way it is to amplify the feeling that the song brings. It traverses that line, back and forth, sometimes the song is in the forefront, sometimes the imagery and motion."
