Personal statement
Juan Riedinger says:
"I directed Joe's Gotta Go
for the Vancouver Film School's writing department. It was done through the Portfolio Shorts program which allows student writers from VFS to see their words come to life.
As a final assignment writing students go through the production process with a professional director and crew - their entire film is shot in 3.5 hours using limited locations. I've done a number of these now and I enjoy the process thoroughly. It's like boot camp for a filmmaker.
Having only 3.5 hours to shoot a film forces everyone to be on top of their game and it's quite surprising what you can put out in very little time. The script for Joe's Gotta Go
, written by the talented John Sobey, was both clever and hilarious.
Working with a script that is so great from the outset made my job easy. On top of that we got stellar performances from our actors and our crew really stepped it up. It's a film I'm quite proud of."
