Personal statement
Director Hiroko Hara says:
"A poetic exploration of language, nationality, gender and ethnicity, In/Te/Gra/Tion is an experimental film originally made in 16mm format. This was my first film using a Bolex camera.
It focuses on the “origin” and “becoming” of global citizens constantly shifting and evolving across space and beyond borders. The process of becoming and its complex as well as mutative characteristics are depicted through multiple languages, voices, and images colliding and blending with each other.
In the film, gender, race, and ethnicity also collide and intersect with one another, mirroring the ever-changing cross-border movements of global citizens. I thought this intricate theme would be best visualized through subtle nuances produced in 16mm."
