Personal statement
Filmmaker Allan Tong says:
"This film compiles research for the forthcoming short comedy I Want To Be A Desi
. The theme of both films is the search for identity in post-multicultural Canada where cultures from various parts of the world collide and blend.
What is a “Desi” in this climate? Can you be both Desi and Canadian? What is the value of belonging to a cultural group? Suppose you are a combination of various cultures? Can you adopt another? And do cultural distinctions matter anymore?"
