The National Screen Institute — Canada (NSI), Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) and S-VOX have partnered to create a fund in memory of Aboriginal media pioneer Suzanne Rochon-Burnett.

APTN and S-VOX will contribute $2,500 annually for three years to support a female Métis participant’s training in one of NSI’s programs. The fund is a tribute to Rochon-Burnett, an accomplished Métis broadcaster and businesswoman who championed Aboriginal artists.

“Suzanne was a leading proponent for women and Métis leadership in the media - she accomplished so many firsts they are difficult to enumerate. S-VOX is proud to honour her tremendous legacy,” said Bill Roberts, president and CEO of S-VOX.

“As a trailblazer from the Aboriginal community, Suzanne left a lasting mark on broadcasting in Canada. She demonstrated that Aboriginal Peoples in Canada can accomplish great feats while facing incredible odds. APTN is happy to support this initiative,” said Jean LaRose, CEO of APTN.

“As the oldest training school in Canada and as leaders in Aboriginal and diversity training, NSI is privileged to be associated with this fund. We are confident the recipient will have a successful career in film and television and continue Suzanne’s vision,” said Susan Millican, CEO of the National Screen Institute - Canada.

S-VOX is a diversified multimedia enterprise that offers high-quality television and digital content for individuals seeking spiritual awareness and personal growth. S-VOX properties include: VisionTV, Canada’s multi-faith and multicultural television broadcaster, along with the digital television services One: the Body, Mind & Spirit channel and The Christian Channel. Other ventures include: VisionTV International, a partnership with Toronto-based Ellis Entertainment that develops, produces and distributes original programming for the global marketplace; myGodPod, a unique faith-based podcasting service; and Christian Media Sales, a product marketing and media buying company.
