The National Screen Institute – Canada is calling for applications from talented Canadian writer/producer teams ready to develop their television series idea through the NSI Totally Television training program.
NSI Totally Television is a market-driven, rigorous and individualized training program that allows working professionals to fine tune their projects over a 10 month period. The course starts with an intensive boot camp in the fall and ends with projects being pitched at the Banff World Television Festival in 2008.
Apply for the program by May 15, 2007, 4:30 p.m. Central Time.
Guidelines and an application form are available at: www.nsi-canada.ca/totallytelevision/registration.shtml
“We're looking for writers and producers who are poised to create hits for the scripted television industry in Canada and around the world. We're looking for the best!” said Kit Redmond, NSI Totally Television Program Manager.
“What sets the NSI Totally Television training program apart from others, like all programs at the National Screen Institute, is the way it connects people and builds relationships that are key to the development of the participants' projects."
Kit is the executive producer of From the Ground Up with Debbie Travis and executive producer of Maxed Out.
Since NSI Totally Television began in 2002, graduating teams have entered production deals with broadcasters such as CHUM, CTV and YTV. Two pilot projects have aired on CBC and APTN and another has recently been produced for Global:
- Wapos Bay - There's No 'I' in Hockey by producer Anand Ramayya and writer Dennis Jackson (NSI Totally Television 2002-2003), won the Canada Award at the 21st Annual Gemini Awards, Best Short Drama at the 2005 ImagineNATIVE Media Arts Festival and Best Children’s Production at the 2006 Yorkton Short Film & Video Festival.
- This Space For Rent, a pilot by producer Jason James and writer Nick Citton (NSI Totally Television 2002-2003) was broadcast on CBC in January 2006. The series has been green-lit for more episodes.
- Da Kink (formerly Kink in My Hair) by producer Damion Nurse and writers Trey Anthony and Ngozi Paul (NSI Totally Television 2004-2005) has just gone into production with Global and will air in fall 2007.
NSI Totally Television has been made possible through the generous support of Presenting Sponsor CTV and the CTV/BCE Benefits. Additional funding has been provided by Program Partner Telefilm Canada and we also gratefully acknowledge the further support of our provincial sponsor British Columbia Film.
