Personal statement
Filmmakers Brandy Glovka, Catharine Murphy and Angela Voght say:
"Florence James walks along the land where she was born and recalls memories of where her family picked berries, how they fished, as well as how they prepared and ate traditional foods.
She also shares teachings on how her ancestors lived, worked and connected with the land. She describes how these memories and the spirit of her people rest within the very land itself.
Our goal was to honour Florence James' story by filming her return to her original birthplace. In the camera work we wanted to capture the intimate experience of this elder's present moment of coming home as well as a sense of her history, visualizing the paths she ran along, beaches she played on and the sea where her family caught fish by canoe.
Florence's hope in telling her story is to document some of the history, knowledge, traditional ways and language of her people so they are not lost for future generations."
