Synopsis
The mandala of Chenrezig is constructed as a vehicle to generate compassion, to realize the impermanence of reality, and to promote the healing of the environment.
Over a period of several days, millions of grains of colored sand were painstakingly laid into place. When finished, the colored sands were swept up and poured into Lake Superior.

Personal statement
Doug LeConte says:
"In my work, the intent is to create a visually rich and intimate multi-leveled sensory experience encouraging the viewer to sink into to the image and connect deeply to the meanings contained within it.
This work is a painterly form of montage, the non-linear technology of the editing software allowing for the juxtaposition of images, audio, special effects and other structural arrangements.
Chenrezig is an attempt to generate a space that creates lateral relationships and reflective associations in turn constructing a bridge between Tibetan Buddhism and the West."
