CBC Radio-Canada is calling for short film and multimedia submissions for its ROOTS contest.

If you're Canadian and/or a permanent resident  you are eligible to submit a three to eight minute piece that speaks about your roots and touches on part of your history or an aspect of your culture.

Entries can be fiction, report, documentary, animation or photomontage and in any genre: comedy, detective, drama, slam or art video.

CBC Radio-Canada is looking for anything unique, original, touching, or surprising that might captivate viewers and internet users.

The deadline for entries is March 7, 2010. The competition is open to amateurs and professionals alike, but you must be at least 18 years old to enter.

Eight recipients (four for each language) will share prizes, including camcorders, computers, iPod Touch players and iPhones.

For full details about the Roots Challenge, visit the official ROOTS site.
