To commemorate Black History Month, CFC (Canadian Film Centre) will host an intimate evening to celebrate the black experience in cinema.
Oscar-nominated filmmaker Lee Daniels (Precious) will join African-Canadian award-winning filmmaker, Clement Virgo (Rude, Poor Boy's Game) and CFC founder Norman Jewison (In the Heat of the Night, A Soldier's Story, The Hurricane) for this special event.
A discussion and screening will take place Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at
7:00 p.m. at the Isabel Bader Theatre, 93 Charles Street West, Toronto.
The 1967 classic In the Heat of the Night will also be screened during the event. This critically acclaimed five-time Oscar-winning film, starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger, signaled a shift in the depiction of the black hero at the height of the Civil Rights Movement.
Tickets are $20 (all proceeds will go towards the CFC Diversity Scholarship). Tickets can be purchased at www.totix.ca or at the venue on the night of the event.
