Dearest Canada's short filmmakers/funders/lovers of the medium...
It's been a long wait, we know, we know, but - phew - we're here now.
Below is the list of Canadian short films chosen for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2010.
Lets get right to it, shall we?
Quebec
- File Under Miscellaneous [Jeff Barnaby]
- Les fleurs de lge [Vincent Biron]
- The Legend Of Beaver Dam [Jerome Sable]
- Marius Borodine [Emanuel Hoss-Desmarais]
- La Metropolitaine [Dan Popa]
- Mokhtar [Halima Ouardiri]
- On The Way To The Sea [Tao Gu]
- Le Projet Sapporo [Marie-Josee Saint-Pierre]
- Sophie Lavoie [Anne Mond]
- La tranche [Claude Cloutier]
Ontario
- Above The Knee [Greg Atkins]
- The Adders Bite [Firas Momani]
- Animal Control [Kire Paputts]
- The Camera and Christopher Merk [Brandon Cronenberg]
- Eggcellent [Martin Sokol]
- Green Crayons [Kazik Radwanski]
- Home: Life Advice [Aaron Phelan]
- Interregnum [Nick Fox-Gieg]
- Living History [Isaac Cravit]
- Love. Marriage. Miscarriage. [Darragh McDonald]
- The Old Ways [Michael Vass]
- Tsunami, Horses and Civilization [Carla Susanto]
Manitoba
- Negativipeg [Matthew Rankin]
- Warchild [Caroline Monnet]
Alberta
British Columbia
- A Fine Young Man [Kevan Funk]
- Sad Bear [Liz Van Allen Cairns, Joe LoBianco - a Crazy8s film]
- Woman Waiting [Antoine Bourges]
Six hundred films were submitted and only 40 chosen. That's some tough competition.
It's nice to see some repeat TIFF short filmmakers in the bunch and see that those filmmakers are finding their sources of funding and an audience. And of course, it's fabulous to see some new names too.
More than likely, a lot of these shorts are attached to funding programs and as that information comes in, we'll update this post.
For now, let Canada's festival season begin!
