Personal statement
Geneviève Poulette says:
"Our aim was to install a confrontation between two people not prone to verbal exchange - a father and his son - in order to let them evolve and overcome their dormant conflict.
In terms of storytelling I opted for wide shots, like paintings, giving the audience the opportunity to witness the characters in their own context while putting the accent on dialogue. I favoured long sequences to allow any tension or uneasiness to slowly appear, instead of providing a break for the viewer through some fast editing.
I wanted the viewer personally involved in the film. To avoid the veiling of emotions in those wide shots, I chose to occasionally intercut them with extreme close-ups where everything is revealed, nothing being possibly hidden.
As their emotional journey evolves, the editing gets more present gradually getting us closer to the characters, emphasizing on one character at the time, in due course."
