Personal statement
Director Ari Cohen says:
"This short film was inspired by the documentary I made on Canadian jazz musician Jackie Washington. I wanted to dramatize a very important time in his life when he was working as a washroom attendant at a jazz bar and was devastated that his first wife left him for another man.
The goal was to combine real and fictional elements from his stories, set to a song he wrote at that time entitled Alone in the Dark. Additionally, making a film that was set in the ‘50s was a challenge I was eager to take on."
