On Friday I joined my colleagues Ursula Lawson (program manager), Chris Vajcner (director of revenue development and communications) and John Gill (CEO) at the Mayor’s Luncheon for the Arts and Winnipeg Arts Council awards.
We were there to support our nominee Leonard Sumner (NSI New Voices) for his work as a singer/songwriter, MC, videographer and all-around very cool dude. (Spoiler alert: he won!)

Leonard was one of 10 nominees for the RBC On the Rise award. Also included in the 10 were fellow NSI grads Trish Cooper (NSI Totally Television) and Alison Campeau (NSI New Voices).

After opening remarks from host Chandra Mayor and a tasty Italian lunch, the winners were announced.
Leonard gave a funny and heartfelt acceptance speech in which he mentioned that he was kind of hoping for a giant novelty cheque to be presented on stage. (Don’t we all?)
The other WAC award winners were Richard Irish, Candice Masters, Aganetha Dyck and Laurie Lam. Congratulations to you all.

As we left the Hotel Fort Garry, Chris realized that Leonard and I were both wearing cool sunglasses. Therefore, one more picture: Leonard and I in the Cool Dude Sunglasses™ pic.
His future’s so bright …
Congratulations Leonard. You are truly an inspiration. Keep doin’ what you do.
